William the Conqueror: 1061 to 1066

The Somme estuary, from where William's invasion fleet sailed

You decide to lead your fleet along a lee shore of the Channel coast to the Somme river and put in there. Many ships are lost along the way, but at least your men are no longer encamped where they have been all summer; and they are considerably closer to England from here. The winds are still contrary. This has got to change right away or your whole invasion effort will be useless.
Go into winter quarters on the Somme.
Force a crossing of the Channel using oars.
Assemble the whole army and pray for a south wind.
Send a challenge to Harold to meet you in single combat.
