William the Conqueror: 1061 to 1066

The French cavalry overwhelm Harold's command in a short time. He is killed. However, Leofwin is unaccounted for. Apparently he escaped after defeating the Bretons.

Your army is in pretty bad shape. Yet the English rally around the last surviving Godwinson. Leofwin is declared king of England and soon brings an army of formidable strength down to trap you in your fortress at Hastings. Hunger soon sets in, and the English fleet is patrolling the Channel, cutting off your supply line. You have no choice but to surrender, promise never to come to England again, and then go home to Normandy. You remain known only as William the Bastard. (You can take personal comfort from the knowledge that at least Harold didn't get away with his usurpation of your kingdom.)

Contemplate the heavenly city, you will have nothing more....
